| Monday |
We worked on an experiment
involving heating a beaker of soil and a beaker of water. The
temperature was taken for 20 minutes with ten minutes of light and then
ten minutes of no light. |
| Tuesday |
The quiz for tomorrow on the
metric system was discussed. We began a worksheet on the movement
of heat. The terms radiation, conduction and convection were
defined and examples were discussed. The students also had time
to work on the graph from yesterday's lab. |

The quiz on the metric system
and graphing will be given. Students will continue to work on the
lab and the worksheet on heat. |

| Monday |
We began our next unit,
Catastrophic Events. The word catastrophe was defined and
students brainstormed various naturally occuring catastrophic events. |
| Tuesday | Individual students constructed
a concept map as a preassessment of what they already know about
catastrophic events. Then groups were organized and each group
began a concept map with all of their ideas. |
| Wednesday | Students will use large maps to
predict where various catastrophic events occur. Reading will
also be done in the Catastrophic Events text. |
| Thursday | Today we began lesson two which
deals with storms such as hurricanes and tornadoes. We used
"tornado tubes" to make observations of how a vortex works. |
| Friday | Students got mid-trimester
grades today. They are to be signed by a parent and returned by
Tuesday of next week. Paper Towel Lab write-ups were also
returned to students. During the remainder of the class period, we watched a short video segment on hurricanes and tornadoes and then completed the lab/worksheet on lesson 2 using the reading material in the student books. |

We began a week long lab on
paper towel testing. Together we worked on the title, statement
of prurpose and some preliminary observations. Students also
developed a hypothesis. This lab is where the students practice
the full blown "Scientific Method". |

their individual experiments. |

We began the metric system review with a simple exercise in measuring the length of the room in both hands and feet. We discussed why the numbers various students got were not all in agreement. |
