Classroom Survival Gear

Your binder comes to class everyday.  Be prepared and be organized!  If you have your own “system” for organizing, be prepared to show Mr. Kaelin how it works.  Maybe your idea is better...better is most welcome.

NOTE: You may either have a dedicated English binder or a binder that holds all of your subjects.  A system of organization is the most important thing.

BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS TO CLASS EVERYDAY:

  1. A one or two inch three-ring binder

  2. at least five tab dividers for your English section (see sections below)

  3. 100 sheets of lined binder paper

  4. A pouch to hold pens, pencils, white-out, a flash drive, and a small pencil sharpener

  5. Blue, black , and red pens (you MUST have at least one of each)

  6. Minimum or two different colored highlighters

  7. A labeled Flash Drive that can hold all of your related electronic documents.

If the cost of any or all of these items is a problem for you, please let me know and I will happily provide the supplies in question.

Keep your binder orderly and well stocked.  Random binder checks will happen.  This is part of your participation grade.

Organize Your English Binder (or section) Like This...

Print and keep a copy of the weekly homework schedule in the front

Label your first divider tab WRITING

Label your second divider tab READING.

Label your third divider tab GRAMMAR/ ROOTS / VOCAB.  Keep all vocabulary and cells lists!

Label your fourth divider tab REFERENCE. This is a place to keep handouts on your writing assignments and works in progress. Most of your writing assignments will be saved in your writing folder here in class.

Important

Do not recycle or remove any of the items I pass out to you until instructed to do so. Keep the most recent assignments in the front of each section. During our periodic binder checks, and perhaps at other times, we will, as a class, clean out outdated papers from our binders.
