The Homework that you see on this page will simply be copied from the homework I send home with the children. The copy will be text only, and probably ugly. I need to keep this as easy as possible. Please excuse the lack of formatting.

Accompanying worksheets, if lost, need to be recopied. Please let me know if you need extra copies.

ABOUT MATH HOMEWORK.... Because of the way that I "do" Math, Math Homework is not always predictable. If there is homework, it usually . involves finishing up classroom assignments for that day. Sometimes however, I spend the whole period teaching a concept, and there are either no pages assigned, or the pages need to be done completely at home.

One should always check math folders for the classroom assignments (written for each group, along with their assignment for that day). On the Web Page, I will publish the latest pages assigned in class, hopefully, no later than Tuesday of every week. Also, check for needed corrections on a particular page. Children do not need to correct all problems, but if the student does not understand a concept, and misses several or more in a particular section, it is expected that they go back and correct. Red Apples on a column of answers means that the page is done to my satisfaction.

Please be aware that the length of my teaching sessions (lecture & practice) go for as long as needed each day. We may find there is more -- or less time to do assigned pages in class, meaning more --or less work at home. Homework Below

Notes & Homework

Homework
May 14 - 18

Thank you, Thank you for all the wonderful gifts and notes of appreciation last week. I am forever spoiled! You don't know how lucky I feel to be working at Roosevelt School; the perks (especially the volunteerism and enthusiasm of students and parents) seem to be endless. As far as a teaching environment goes ... there is no better place to be. I am not exaggerating when I say that I am in constant awe of the Roosevelt community and its continuing effort to make this a school, second to none.

Wow! Your children put on a GREAT performance Tuesday morning! I was so proud, I almost burst my buttons. We raised a lot of interest for the Science Olympiad, which was our goal.

Now I need to beg ... I NEED PARENTS TO HELP OUT AT THE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD STATIONS. I need parents the morning of June 5, from 8:15 to 12:00 to hand out stickers, count points, and so on. (I could also use some help in setting up too, but more than anything ... I really need help at those stations). Can any of you take off a morning and help? Do you have neighbors or family that could help out? The Olympiad needs 40 volunteers, minimum, to run smoothly ... I've never organized anything this big before, and I'm a little baffled on how to find so many ....

Wednesday is the Multi Cultural Feast - 6:30. This is always a wonderful, and fun event. Hope to see you there!

Saturday, May 19, between 8:00 and 11:00, the Dad's Club is putting on a Pancake Breakfast, and will honor Dave Nigel, who will be retiring this year (What will we do without this dedicated man???)

Next Thursday, at 7:00 pm, we'll have our Open House. Yippee! It's always fun to cruise all the classrooms. There's a lot going on at Roosevelt.

There's a rumor that Roosevelt has a new principal, and that he's very good! He comes from Palo Alto ... that's all I better say for now. (I love starting rumors! Smiles)

HOMEWORK

Concentrate on those reports. In a nutshell:

*12 pages, minimum (which can include Bibliography and Table of Contents)

*At least four sub topics (the children sometimes call these 'Chapters')

*Reports need a title page, Table of Content, and bibliography (bibliography comes at the end of the report) Optional - Outline, glossary, dedication page

*Each page needs at least 1/2 page of information. If 1/2 page of writing is all there is, there needs to be an illustration to balance the page and information.

*Your report needs at least three sources. (If you have lost your paper showing how to write these into a bibliography, ask for another)

*You need a 3 D project to compliment your report

*Enjoy what you do ... and be proud of your finished product. Take a look at a piece of writing that you did at the beginning of this year, and relish the fact that you find writing easier, and you know how to do it better--much better!

Homework will be concentrated on your reports for the next TWO WEEKS. No Spelling Workbooks or Tests for the next two weeks.
