MommaDuck is a wild duck who moved into the Brewbaker Garden in the Spring of 2010. She made a nest and laid an egg a day, until there were eleven. She then nested, very seriously, until they hatched, rarely leaving. The whole process took about six weeks, and I became enchanted with the idea of having a duck within a few feet of my living room window.
Here is the story of MommaDuck. The eggs hatched while I was at Outdoor Education, but my daughter, Erin, took pictures of the hatchlings. No one was home when she paraded them back to the lagoon, but whenever I see a duck out there, I think that it must be MommaDuck.
Enjoy! (about 8 min. long)
